The Best Definition of Internet:-)

Viral Marketing: The Subservient Chicken

In 2004, Subservient Chicken, the Burguer King’s Web Campaign was a funny (and still is) and effective campaign. The campaign belongs to the viral marketing category: Subservient Chicken site racked up a million hits in the first 24 hours. The Barbarian Group, an interactive production company, programmed a list of actions, coded with keywords, to string together the video clips that create the interactive responses. They shot the footage of the chicken in an apartment because they wanted the living room to look like a stereotypical Webcam feed. With the command “chicken sandwich” the chicken pretends to be a sandwich by lying on the floor squashed between two sofa cushions. Chris Ulbrich, from Wired Magazine, compares this campaign to those of pornographers that have used the Web to stage interactive peepshows. What do you think of it? Have a look at Subservient Chiken.

How to teach Project Management in one Hour

The coordination of the EABH International Summer School asked me to give one hour lecturer in Project Management. My knowledge in Project Management is a mix of learning it at School (MA mostly) and more than ten years in management. Project Management needs practice: Doing "it" is the best learning if we are open minded and we have leadership capabilities. But the right term for succeeding in project management is POWER. The sources of power could be expertise in the field of the project, or power because of your position in the organization. Managing projects is a very demanding and difficult task. How to present it in 1 hour...was some kind of dilemma to me.
The solution was a competition: 3 groups (5 people each) doing one hour project. I was the client and I gave them objectives, time and resources. I gave them also the team evaluation criteria (NEVER forget it). I felt it worked!:-) The students did play the role of team members and they tried to deliver the project in time.

Please, find hereunder my slides, that you can use as an introduction to Project Management.

Defining New Media or Media in Transition...

Lev Manovich in his book "The Language of New Media" defines new media as new cultural forms, which depend on computers for presentation and distribution: web sites, virtual worlds, virtual reality, multimedia, computer games, computer animation. Lev Manovich is a Professor at the Visual Arts Department, University of California - San Diego (UCSD) where he teaches new media art and theory.

I started this blog saying that new media is media in transition. Media in transition is the direct result of the numerical representation condition of new media at first. Secondly, new media is media in transition because people wants to access it from the most convenient device. User content generated such as photos captured with the mobile phone goes to online communities; videos of important news go to friends and the major channel news at the same time. Music downloads go to MPEG players. That's what "media in transition" means to me.
